Roots & Shoots: A Global Movement for Change
Today, there will rightly be many tributes to Jane Goodall — a true wonder and world-changing maverick. On Make a Name for Someone Else Day, I want to amplify a story of hope that carries forward her legacy: Roots & Shoots, the youth-led program of the Jane Goodall Institute. What began in Tanzania with a small group of students has now grown into a global movement, active in more than 60 countries. Roots & Shoots inspires millions of young people to take action for people, animals, and the environment. From planting community gardens and protecting wildlife, to leading recycling initiatives and promoting peace and equality. On the Roots & Shoots site, Jane Goodall also highlights the Tapestry of Hope—a living map that captures and shares these inspiring projects from around the world. Today, I raise a glass to Jane Goodall and the incredible work of Roots and Shoots and the Jane Goodall Institute.
