Health and Harmony conducted 1000 hours of listening to communities to understand what they needed to improve their lives. Recognizing ecological problems such as palm oil and deforestation, they collaborated with communities to learn that locals did not want to cut down the rainforest. Instead, they desired alternative livelihoods and healthcare. In response, Health and Harmony established a clinic and trained Indonesian doctors to serve these communities, drastically reducing malaria. Their livelihood programs empowered people to turn in chainsaws, leading to forest regrowth.
