Stephen Alvarez leads the Ancient Art Archive, which is a wonderful program that goes around the world using high quality photography and digital imagery to record ancient art sites from different cultures. Sometimes these are able to be connected to living cultures and we learn more about the interpretation of ancient art and the long legacy of deep understandings of nature and humans' role in the world through the longevity of some of these cultures and ideas. Other times, it begins to unlock information about long lost cultures. In all cases, it's a beautiful testament to humans using whatever technology is available in their time to record and better understand the world and our interpretations of it.
