Social enterprise shares wisdom on protecting future generations.
transcript
My story is a social enterprise called Embercombe founded by Mac McCartney. Thanks to Chrissy at Creative Conscience, this week I heard an amazing talk where Mack spoke about the children's fire, which was passed to him from Native American teachers and mentors. They recognised that the children represented the tribe's capacity to survive and so made this pledge to their people and to life that 'no law, no decision, no commitment, no action, nothing of any kind will be permitted to go forth from the council that will harm the children seven generations to come'. Knowing the power of symbolism, the chiefs ordered that a small fire be kindled in the centre of all their council gatherings, the children's fire as a living reminder of their pledge. I love that Mack and others continued to talk about this deep wisdom.
