Grassroots efforts shine a light on statelessness.
transcript
Up to 15 million people on Earth are stateless who don't have any nationality and are not recognised as a citizen by any state. There are two brilliant and hopeful organisations working in this vital space. One is an alliance called the European Network on Statelessness. They bring together and support over 180 organisations and networks in around 40 countries and are at the forefront of raising awareness about statelessness and the right to a nationality. One of the grassroots organisations in the alliance is a remarkable organisation called StateFree based in Germany who are the first global community for stateless people working to ensure that statelessness is on the societal and political agenda. ENS and State Free are my hopeful stories promoting a largely hidden issue that impacts the rights of millions of people around the world.
