Salomon Rettig: A Journey of Resilience and Hope
Salomon Rettig, born in 1923 in Berlin, is a Holocaust survivor. At the age of 10, his mother could no longer care for him, and he was sent to an orphanage. He escaped at 13 and ended up in Palestine, living in a kibbutz for ten years. Eventually, he made his way to the US, where he felt safe and able to thrive.
His wife asked him what he wanted to do with his life, a question he had never considered. Inspired by her, he pursued a university education, focusing on social psychology. He eventually earned his PhD, describing it as one of the most joyful moments of his life.
Salomon's story is one of trauma but also of human resilience and the possibilities that arise when someone is nurtured, loved, and cared for.
